What is Endurablend™ Systems?

A:

Endurablend™ Systems is an advanced polymer cement surfacing system containing a polymer modified cement material. This material is comprised of specially blended acrylic modifiers, Portland Cement and a unique blend of engineered aggregates.

What is Endurablend™ Systems designed to do?

A:

Endurablend™ Systems was developed as a durable and versatile thin polymer cement overlay which can be applied to both asphalt and concrete to provide protection to the pavement, increase friction, improve aesthetics and provide pedestrians and drivers with a safer and more appealing finished surface.

Q:

Is Endurablend™ Systems environmentally safe?

A:

Yes! Endurablend™ Systems has no harmful ingredients to either humans or the environment. It is a water-based product, has a stable cured structure and has a higher solar reflectivity than asphalt. It does not release toxins into the environment. And, because it is applied at ambient temperatures, Endurablend™ Systems have low energy requirements. It can even qualify for LEED Credits.

Can an Endurablend™ System be installed in snow plow climates?

A:

Yes, Endurablend™ Systems have been installed for over five years in areas where snow plows are frequently used.  Because of Endurablend™’s durability and thin application, the Endurablend™ surfaces are unaffected by snow plows.

Q:

How thick is Endurablend™?

A:

A standard single layer of Endurablend™  Systems is applied from 1/8 to 1/4 -in. thick. Some Endurablend™ System designs involve multiple layers and the finished surface thickness can vary.

Can Endurablend™ Systems be colored?

A:

Yes! Endurablend™ Systems comes in a standard concrete gray or can be pigmented to virtually any color.

Q:

Will Endurablend™ Systems crack?

A:

As with all other micro-surfacing products, it will crack if the pavement structure cracks. Because Endurablend™ is more thermally compatible with both asphalt and concrete than most other coatings, the reflective cracking is mitigated in many circumstances.  Endurablend™ Systems innovative patterned surface treatments allow for pavement cracking in predetermined channels which extend the life of the coating and provide a more consistent riding surface and uniform appearance.

Will Endurablend™ Systems protect asphalt from automotive fuels?

A:

Yes! Endurablend™ Systems is impervious to all hydrocarbons, namely fuels and oils. This quality makes it an excellent choice for parking garages, refueling areas and airport applications.

Q:

Can I put Endurablend™ Systems over asphalt exhibiting Alligator Cracking?

A:

If the asphalt exhibits alligator cracking due to oxidation, then Endurablend™ Systems can be applied if the asphalt is stable under traffic. Endurablend™ Systems is not recommended for structurally unsound pavements with subgrade and base failures that telegraph up into the HMA or concrete surface and exhibit medium or high severity alligator cracking in the wheel paths.

How long has the present formulation been around?

A:

Polymer Composite Micro Overlay™ materials were invented in 1996 and have been used in all types of applications such as interstate bridge decks, airport pavements, B1-B bomber APU pads, parking lot overlays, fast-food and bank drive thru lanes, oil spot/pot hole repair, off-shore oil helidecks, barge docks and work boat walkways.  Endurablend™’s unique formula was developed in 2008 and has demonstrated extraordinary durability and versatility on both asphalt and concrete surfaces subjected to heavy vehicular traffic.

Why is Endurablend™ Systems suited to protect asphalt overlays?

A:

Endurablend™ Systems will prevent UV from aging asphalt because UV does not affect Endurablend™. The natural light gray color of Endurablend™ Systems cools the supporting asphalt, which extends its rutting life exponentially. Endurablend™ Systems can be installed quickly to provide a durable, semiflexible and high friction wearing surface that is also an effective pavement preservation surface.

Can an Endurablend™ System be installed in snow plow climates?

Q:

Can Endurablend™ Systems be installed in any location?

A:

Yes, Endurablend™ Systems can be installed in busy urban areas or in remote locations. The mixing and staging can be performed on a flatbed in the traffic lane directly in front of the placing unit, or at a staging area in close proximity to the job site. The mixing and placing operation can be tailored with the assistance of PSC or its installer for just about any job.

Who can install Endurablend™ Systems?

A:

Pavement Surface Coatings and its national distributor, Stonhard, are setting up a network of installers across the world. If an installer is not set-up in the area where a project is identified, PSC and Stonhard will work diligently to locate installers or, if logistics and schedules permit, PSC and/or Stonhard will undertake the Endurablend™ Systems installation.

Q:

What are the optimum installation conditions for Endurablend™ Systems?

A:

The standard minimum recommended ambient air temperature needs to be 50° F and rising. The optimum environmental conditions for installing the material is 68° F to 86° F with relative humidity (e.g. 50%) which will result in a curing time of 2 hours or less. Under such conditions the section can be opened to traffic in less than 2 hours. The maximum recommended ambient temperature for installation of Endurablend™ systems is 95° F. For conditions that are outside these recommended boundary conditions, the mixing and placement operation needs to be tailored together with Pavement Surface Coatings and Stonhard.

Q:

Can Endurablend™ Systems be applied on newly laid asphalt or newly applied crack filler?

A:

Yes. It is recommended that the asphalt surface or crack repair material be allowed to cure for at least 2 weeks before installing Endurablend™ Systems. This allows the surface volatiles to evaporate or be removed by traffic to prevent tracking on the decorative systems.

Can Endurablend™ Systems be applied over aggregate surfaces?

A:

Yes, depending on the nature of the aggregate system. Endurablend™ has been successfully installed over conventional high friction surfaces of epoxy/aggregate improving aesthetics and performance.

Q:

How is Endurablend™ Systems applied over asphalt surfaces that exhibit thermal, longitudinal, lane widening, or construction joint cracking?

A:

Where discrete cracking exists on the road surface, it is recommended to mitigate the effects of the cracking by treating the cracks appropriately by cleaning and routing and then applying an Endurablend™ pretreatment layer.  After this treatment has cured, the application of the designed Endurablend™ System can proceed.

Q:

How is Endurablend™ installed?

A:

Endurablend™ is installed using specially designed mixing and placing equipment by certified Endurablend™ installers. Depending on the size of the job, which can vary from a bridge deck, or cycle path to a large airport apron, or even a roadway, the installer will establish a planned closure, prepare the asphalt or concrete surface, place the Endurablend™ (spray or squeegeed) in a designed configuration (color, texture, pattern and finish modification) and   remove the closure.
